A cracked molar does not get better on its own. Dr. Ben Dawson caps and rebuilds broken teeth at our Dan Jones Rd office, minutes off US 40 — and because we mill CEREC ceramic crowns here, plenty of cases finish in a single visit instead of three trips across town.

Rebuilding Broken Teeth in Hendricks County
The Cracked Molar Plainfield Keeps Putting Off
A dental crown is a custom cap that covers the whole tooth, holds the remaining structure together, and gives you back the shape and the bite you had before the tooth broke. Dental crowns in Plainfield, IN are done at our Dan Jones Rd office by Dr. Ben Dawson, start to finish, including the CEREC ceramic crowns we mill on site.
Most people who need one did not wake up needing one. A filling put in fifteen years ago finally gives out. A cusp snaps off a molar on something that should not have been hard. A tooth that had root canal treatment starts to feel fragile. None of that is an emergency on the day it happens, which is exactly why it gets postponed.
Then the postponing runs into Plainfield. The east-side warehouse and logistics district off Perry Road and Airtech Parkway runs distribution operations for Amazon, Walmart, UPS and Home Depot, the FedEx Express hub sits just east at the Indianapolis airport, and a lot of this town works rotating shifts, mandatory overtime, or a trade where the day starts before a dental office opens. Booking one appointment is hard enough. Booking a second and a third across town is how a cracked molar turns into six more months of chewing on one side.
That is the practical case for a local office that mills its own crowns. Bloom Dental is doctor-owned and doctor-led, founded in 2019 by a dentist, so the person planning your tooth is the person restoring it. You can read more about how we approach crowns and bridges across all seven of our Indiana offices.
What Actually Happens
What Getting a Crown at Our Dan Jones Rd Office Involves
No mystery, no vague promises. Here is when a crown is the right tool, what the visit looks like, and when we will tell you to do something else.
When a crown is the right answer
A cracked or split tooth. A large old filling with more filling left than tooth. A back tooth after root canal treatment, where the load a molar takes can split what is left. A bite worn down by grinding. A broken cusp. And the visible top of a dental implant, which is a crown too.
Exam and imaging first
We look at the tooth and image it before deciding anything. That is where we find a crack running below the gum, an infection that needs treating first, or a tooth that is honestly better off out. Nobody gets shaped for a crown before we know what is underneath.
Shaping and the digital scan
The tooth is numbed and shaped so a crown can seat over it cleanly, then scanned digitally. No tray of impression putty, no gagging, no waiting on a courier to carry a mold somewhere. The scan is the design file.
Same day, or a temporary in between
We offer same-day CEREC crowns, milled from a ceramic block here in the office. Whether your tooth is a candidate is a clinical call made at the visit, not a promise made on a website. If your case calls for a lab-made crown, you wear a temporary and come back once to seat the finished one.
Fitting the bite, then bonding it
A crown that sits a fraction too high is the difference between forgetting about the tooth and being annoyed by it every day. We check the bite, adjust, check again, then bond it. Tell us if it feels off. That is a five-minute fix, not a complaint.
What goes on a front tooth versus a back one
Visible teeth get tooth-colored ceramic, matched to the teeth beside it. Back teeth take the heaviest chewing load in your mouth, so the material choice there is a trade-off between strength and appearance. Dr. Dawson walks you through the options for your tooth rather than defaulting to one answer for everybody.
What decides how long it lasts
We will not put a number of years on your crown, because the crown is usually not what fails. The natural tooth underneath can still decay at the margin where the crown meets it. Brushing, flossing that edge and keeping your checkups are what protect the work. If you grind your teeth, say so and we will talk about guarding it.
When a crown is not the answer
A small chip on a front tooth often needs bonding, not a crown, and shaping a healthy tooth down for one you did not need is not something you can undo.
At the other end, a tooth that has broken below the gum may be past saving. Then the honest recommendation is removing it and replacing it with a dental implant or a bridge, and we would rather say that at the first visit.
You get the figure in writing
We do not quote a crown price before we have looked at the tooth, because the tooth decides the plan. After the exam you get the number in writing with your verified insurance benefit applied, and you decide from there. No work starts on a maybe.
Why This Office
Six Reasons Plainfield Patients Choose Bloom Dental for Crowns
Dentists own it, not investors
Bloom Dental was founded in 2019 by Dr. Brandt Finney and expanded by dentists. It is not a DSO. The call on whether your tooth needs a crown is made by the dentist looking at it.
The mill is in the building
Same-day CEREC crowns are done here, not sent out and waited on. For a lot of cases that turns a two-appointment job into one, which is the whole ballgame if taking time off is the hard part.
One dentist, start to finish
Dr. Ben Dawson examines the tooth, shapes it and seats the crown. You are not re-explaining the tooth to a different face at every visit, and nobody inherits half a plan.
Complex teeth stay in house
If the tooth needs root canal treatment or an implant before it needs a crown, we have in-house specialists and CBCT imaging for it. Our doctors also review cases together weekly across locations, so a tricky tooth gets more than one set of eyes.
Built around Plainfield schedules
We book Monday through Thursday, 8 AM to 5 PM, a short run from the I-70 interchange and just off the old National Road through town. If you are on a rotation at one of the distribution centers off Perry Road or Airtech Parkway, tell us and we will find times that survive the rotation.
A path if you have no insurance
We take most major carriers, and for patients with no dental coverage there is a Bloom Dental membership program. Ask before you assume a crown is out of reach.

Who Restores Your Tooth
Dr. Ben Dawson, DDS
Bloom Dental · 167 Dan Jones Rd, Plainfield, IN
Dr. Dawson leads the Plainfield office and handles crown cases here from the first look at the tooth through the bite check on the finished crown. Patients describe the team as gentle and unhurried, which counts for a lot when someone has been avoiding a cracked molar for months and is bracing for a lecture about it.
He will also tell you when a crown is the wrong tool — when bonding will do, or when the tooth is past saving and an implant is the honest answer. That candour is the point of a doctor-led practice, and it is worth more at the first visit than any promise about the result.

Insurance, Membership and What a Crown Will Cost
Bloom Dental accepts most major carriers, including Delta Dental, Blue Cross, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, MetLife, Guardian, TeamCare, DentaQuest and Medicare. Most plans treat a crown as a major restorative benefit, which usually covers a share of the cost rather than all of it, and some apply a waiting period or an annual maximum. We verify your specific benefit before we start, then give you the figure in writing. If you do not carry dental insurance, ask about the membership program.
Common Questions
Dental Crown Questions from Plainfield and Hendricks County Patients
How much does a dental crown cost in Plainfield, IN?
It depends on which tooth we are crowning, what material the case calls for, and whether the tooth needs anything else done first, so there is no single price we can quote before we look at it. At your visit to our Dan Jones Rd office we examine the tooth, take imaging, and give you the figure in writing along with what your insurance is expected to cover. If you do not carry dental insurance, ask about the Bloom Dental membership program before you decide anything.
Can I get a same day crown at the Dan Jones Rd office?
We do same day CEREC crowns here, which means the ceramic crown is milled in the office rather than sent to a laboratory. Whether your specific tooth is a candidate is decided at the visit, because some teeth need a lab made crown for the material or the fit the case calls for. Dr. Dawson tells you which path yours is on before any work starts, not after.
I work shifts at the Plainfield warehouses. How many visits does a crown take?
A same day CEREC crown is designed to be one visit, start to finish. A lab made crown is two: we shape the tooth and fit a temporary at the first, then seat the finished crown at the second. That is the honest reason we brought CEREC into this office, because a second and third trip across town is exactly what makes people on a rotating shift put a cracked tooth off for another six months.
Do I need a crown after a root canal?
Usually yes on a back tooth, and the reason is mechanical rather than cosmetic. A molar that has had root canal treatment has had structure removed from the middle of it, and molars take the hardest chewing load in your mouth, so the tooth is more likely to split without a crown holding it together. Front teeth are judged case by case. We walk you through why we are recommending it for your particular tooth.
How long does a dental crown last?
We do not put a number on it, because the crown is not usually what fails. The natural tooth underneath can still decay at the margin where the crown meets the tooth, so brushing, flossing along that edge and keeping your checkups are what decide how long it lasts. Grinding shortens the life of any restoration, and if you grind we will talk about protecting it.
Will my dental insurance cover a crown at our Plainfield office?
Most plans treat a crown as a major restorative benefit, which typically covers a share of the cost rather than all of it, and many plans apply a waiting period or an annual maximum. Bloom Dental accepts most major carriers including Delta Dental, Blue Cross, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, MetLife, Guardian, TeamCare, DentaQuest and Medicare. We verify your specific benefit before we start so the number you are given is the real one.
What if my tooth is too far gone for a crown?
Then we say so. A crown needs enough sound tooth left underneath to hold onto, and a tooth that has broken below the gum or lost too much structure is not a good candidate no matter how much anyone wants to save it. In that case the honest options are removing the tooth and replacing it with an implant or a bridge. We would rather have that conversation at the first visit than crown something that fails a year later.
