Saving Teeth in Johnson County

One Tooth, One Morning, Off Smith Valley Rd

A dental crown is a custom cap that covers the whole tooth, holds the remaining structure together, and restores its shape and its place in your bite. Dental crowns in Greenwood, IN are done at our W Smith Valley Rd office on the west side of town, and we mill ceramic crowns here with CEREC, so a lot of cases are finished the same day.

That matters more here than it sounds. The people who sit in this chair are usually Center Grove parents with a school run at both ends of the day, or somebody who drives US 31 to I-65 and up into Indianapolis every morning. Asking them to take two separate mornings off for one tooth is how a cracked molar turns into a molar that splits in half in November.

The other half of it is who does the work. This is a single-dentist office, so the person who looks at the crack, plans the crown and checks your bite at the end is the same person the whole way through. Nobody restarts your case from a chart note.

Crowns are one of the most common things we do here. You can read how Bloom Dental approaches dental crowns across all seven locations, and see what else the Greenwood office handles day to day.

Material and Lifespan

What the Crown Is Made Of, and What Decides How Long It Lasts

Two questions come up at nearly every crown appointment. Here are both answers, without the sales gloss.

Ceramic on the teeth people see

Visible teeth get a tooth-colored ceramic crown, shaded to sit beside your own enamel rather than announce itself. This is also what the CEREC unit in the office mills.

Back teeth are a trade-off

Molars take the chewing load, so strength and appearance pull against each other back there. Dr. LeBlanc walks you through the options for your specific tooth instead of defaulting to one material for everybody.

The tooth underneath still counts

A crown does not make a tooth immune. Your natural tooth is still there under it and can decay where the crown meets the gum, so brushing, flossing that margin and keeping your checkups is what decides how long the crown stays put.

What Actually Happens

From the First X-Ray to the Bite Check

The whole sequence, in order, with nothing glossed over.

Step One

Exam and imaging

We look at how much sound tooth is left, whether the crack reaches the nerve, and how your bite closes. This is the step that decides whether you need a crown at all.

Step Two

Shaping the tooth

The tooth is numbed and reduced so a cap can seat over it with the right thickness of material. Old failing filling material comes out here, and if there is decay underneath, this is where we find it.

Step Three

The digital scan

A scanner replaces the tray of impression putty. It captures the shaped tooth and the teeth it bites against, which is what the crown is designed from.

Step Four

Same day, or a temporary

If your tooth is a same-day candidate, the ceramic crown is milled here while you wait. If a lab-made crown is the better answer, you leave in a temporary and come back to have the permanent one fitted. We tell you which route yours is taking before we start.

Step Five

Fitting and the bite check

The crown is seated, bonded and then adjusted until it meets the other teeth the way the rest of your bite does. Say something if it feels tall. A crown that sits high is the single most common reason a new crown feels wrong.

Worth Saying

When a crown is not the answer

A small chip on a front tooth is usually a bonding job, not a crown. And a tooth that is broken below the gum or has lost too much support cannot be saved by capping it, so the honest recommendation there is removing it and replacing it with a dental bridge or a dental implant.

Why This Office

Six Reasons Greenwood Patients Get Their Crowns Here

One morning, not two

When the case suits it, the CEREC unit here mills your crown while you wait. For a Center Grove household with a school pickup at three, that is the difference between getting the tooth fixed and putting it off again.

On the west side, past US 31

W Smith Valley Rd is a short hop from Old Town Greenwood, Greenwood Park Mall, Bargersville and Whiteland, and it is nowhere near the downtown parking garage you were dreading.

The same dentist all the way through

Dr. LeBlanc plans the crown, prepares the tooth and adjusts the bite at the end. One person carries the case, so nothing gets lost in a handover.

Doctor-owned, not a chain

Bloom Dental was founded by a dentist in 2019 and is still dentist-led. Nobody upstairs is setting a monthly crown target.

The tooth under the crown is covered too

If the nerve is involved, root canal treatment happens in house and the crown is planned alongside it. Our doctors also review cases together across all seven offices every week.

Straight talk about the money

We verify what your plan actually pays before we start, including any annual maximum and waiting period. There is also a Bloom Dental membership program if you have no coverage.

Who Places Your Crown in Greenwood

Dr. Malory LeBlanc, DMD, the dentist placing dental crowns at Bloom Dental in Greenwood, IN

Dr. Malory LeBlanc, DMD

Bloom Dental · 4800 W Smith Valley Rd Suite K, Greenwood, IN

Dr. LeBlanc leads the Greenwood office and carries a crown case from the first x-ray through the bite check at the end. That continuity is the practical benefit of a single-dentist office: the person shaping your tooth already knows why the tooth cracked and what your bite does to it.

She will also tell you when a crown is the wrong tool, whether that means bonding a small chip or being straight with you about a tooth that cannot be saved. Patients here tend to describe the visits as gentle and unhurried, which is worth more at a crown appointment than any promise about results.

Insurance, Membership and What a Crown Will Cost

Bloom Dental accepts most major carriers, including Delta Dental, Blue Cross, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, MetLife, Guardian, TeamCare, DentaQuest and Medicare. Most plans treat a crown as a major restorative service, which usually means they cover a share of it rather than all of it, and many carry an annual maximum and a waiting period worth knowing about before you book. We verify yours first and give you the figure in writing once we have looked at the tooth, so the number you are quoted is the number you pay.

Common Questions

Dental Crown Questions from Greenwood and Johnson County Patients

Can I get a dental crown in one visit in Greenwood, IN?

Often, yes. Our Smith Valley Rd office mills same day CEREC ceramic crowns on site, so a lot of patients are shaped, scanned and finished in a single appointment. Whether your tooth is a same day candidate is decided at the visit, once we have looked at how much tooth is left and how the bite closes. Some teeth are better served by a lab made crown, and we will tell you which one yours is before we start rather than after.

When does a tooth actually need a crown instead of a filling?

A filling replaces missing tooth structure. A crown holds the whole tooth together. Once there is more filling than tooth left, or the tooth is cracked, or a cusp has broken off, a bigger filling just gives the crack somewhere else to travel. That is the point where a cap over the whole tooth is the honest recommendation. A small chip on a front tooth is a different problem, and bonding usually handles it.

My tooth had a root canal. Does it need a crown too?

Back teeth almost always do. A tooth that has had root canal treatment has had structure removed from the inside, and molars and premolars take the heaviest chewing load in the mouth, so they are the ones that split without a crown over them. Front teeth are judged case by case depending on how much of the tooth is intact. We plan the crown at the same time as the root canal so you are not making a second decision later.

How much does a dental crown cost in Greenwood, IN?

It depends on the tooth, the material and what else that tooth needs first, so we do not quote a number before we look. We examine the tooth, take imaging, and hand you the figure in writing with your verified insurance benefit already applied. A straightforward crown on a molar and a crown that follows root canal treatment are two different plans, and the cost follows the plan.

I commute up I-65 into Indianapolis. Do I have to take two mornings off?

That is the reason we mill crowns in the office. When your tooth is a same day candidate, one appointment on Smith Valley Rd covers the shaping, the scan and the fitting, so there is no second trip for a permanent crown and no temporary to look after in between. Bloom Dental also runs seven Indiana offices on shared records, including one on Virginia Ave downtown, so a follow up can happen wherever your day actually is.

Will my dental insurance cover a crown?

Most plans treat a crown as a major restorative service, which usually means they pay a share rather than the whole amount, and many apply an annual maximum and a waiting period. Bloom Dental accepts most major carriers including Delta Dental, Blue Cross, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, MetLife, Guardian, TeamCare, DentaQuest and Medicare. We verify your specific benefit before treatment so the number you are quoted is the number you pay.
