Dr. Dawson grew up in Bloomington, did his undergrad at Indiana University, and stayed in state for his dental degree at the IU School of Dentistry. After that came a pediatric dental residency in Indianapolis — which turns out to be a useful thing in a dentist whether the patient is six or sixty.

He handles the whole range in Plainfield: six-month cleanings, restorative work, same-day crowns, implant cases. Away from the chair he's on a golf course, or watching the Colts and Pacers do something to his blood pressure.

What happens at a new patient's first visit?

Plan on about an hour. We take X-rays, do a full exam, look at your gums, and then actually sit down and tell you what we see — in English, with the images on the screen in front of you. New patients can get an exam and X-rays for $99. If a cleaning fits the same visit, we'll do it; if the mouth needs more than a cleaning, we'll say so before anybody starts drilling.

Do you take my dental insurance?

We accept Delta Dental, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare, Medicare, DentaQuest and AlwaysCare. Bring your card to the first visit and the front desk will verify your benefits and tell you what's covered before treatment starts. More detail on our insurance and financing page.

What if I don't have insurance?

Then the Bloom Dental membership program is probably your answer. It's our own in-house plan for uninsured patients, and it exists specifically so "I don't have dental insurance" stops being a reason to skip cleanings for four years. Flexible financing is available too — ask at the desk.

I have a dental emergency. What do I do right now?

Call the Plainfield office at (317) 204-3111 and tell us what happened. We hold room in the schedule for urgent problems and can see most emergencies the same day, though we can't promise it for every case. Can you really do a crown in one visit?

Yes. We use CEREC same-day crown technology, which means the tooth gets scanned, the crown gets milled here, and it goes in at the same appointment. No temporary crown to baby for two weeks, no second trip across Plainfield, no temp that pops off while you're eating something you were warned about. See dental crowns.

Do you place implants here, or refer me somewhere else?

Here. Bloom has in-house implant specialists, so complex cases stay inside the group instead of being handed to a surgeon you've never met. We use CBCT 3D imaging and guided implant surgery to plan the placement before anything happens. Implant consultations are free — details on dental implants.

Do you see kids?

We do. Dr. Dawson completed a pediatric dental residency in Indianapolis, which is a useful thing in a dentist when a six-year-old has decided today is the day to be dramatic. Families often book back-to-back so the whole crew is done in one trip. See pediatric dentistry.

I'm genuinely anxious about the dentist. Any options?

Say so when you book — it changes how we run the appointment, and you will not be the first person that week to mention it. We offer sedation dentistry for patients who need it, and for everyone else we go slower and explain each step before it happens. Nobody here is keeping score.

Where exactly are you, and where do I park?

167 Dan Jones Rd, Plainfield, IN 46168 — just off US-40, an easy run from Ronald Reagan Parkway and a few minutes from the Shops at Perry Crossing. There's a free surface lot right at the door, so no garage, no meter, no circling the block. We're a short drive for patients across Hendricks County, including Avon, Brownsburg and Mooresville.

Life happens — just call (317) 204-3111 as early as you can. The more notice we get, the better the odds we can move you to another good slot instead of a Tuesday six weeks out, and the better the odds somebody else in Plainfield gets that chair.
